Feel Good Farm With Green Papper Plant

Hello everybody! In today's episode we're gonna see how to grow peppersWe will go over the growing techniques, how to fertilize them. . . how to take care of your pepper plants and we will also see a lot of varieties of peppersthat you can grow.
So sit back and enjoy! There are a lot of pepper varieties that you can grow in your gardenHere are some of thoseSo those are the most common pepper varieties that you willusually grow. . . so let's get started!Peppers can be planted in the groundor in containers. . . they do great in both.
If you're planting in the ground. . . You need to start your seeds indoors Six weeks before the last frostIn this episode we will take a look at planting peppers in containersWe will be planting a green bell pepper variety todaythe name of the pepper is "Big Bertha"So for a single pepper plant you need a containerAbout this wide. . . about 16 inches or so Gently remove the plantFrom the provided peat pot And then what do you wanna do is justStimulate the roots a little bit It will cause it to grow really wellMake sure you compact and remove the air around the plantAnd once that's done, all we need to do is put some mulch. . .  I'm using a guava leaf mulch hereYou could use any mulch that you want.
I just have a lot of guava leaves lying in my backyardAnd they make pretty good mulch! Pepper plants need to be stakedNow I'm just using a regular stake that's found in most of the garden storesIf you are in a very windy area you needto secure these stakes by a couple of more stakesStart the irrigation for your container and make sure it worksIf you haven't switched to drip irrigation yet. . . Well, maybe it's time! It's a very efficiently way of watering your plantsNow we're going to plant another pepper plant. . . this time in a whiskey barrel and because the whiskey barrel is so bigIt can easily accommodate two pepper plantsAnd we're going to plant my favorite pepper plant The "Ancho Poblano"The technique of planting these plants is the sameFor a peat pot that this plant comes in. . . the instruction says to plant the pot directlyHowever, I think it's best if youRemove the peat covering And stimulate the roots a little bitI have always found that if you stimulate the roots before plantingyour plants are gonna do really wellSo what I'm doing is gently removing the peat pot from the bottom freeing up those rootsAnd then what I'm gonna do is push upwardsso that the plant comes right out of the peat potjust loosen up the rootsfrom all sidesThis plant is ready! And do the same thing with the other plantOne reason I like growing in whiskey barrels is because it lets you planttwo or even three of these medium-sized pepper plantsin one barrelSo let's plant these two pepper plants making sure that we compact the soil around the plantsJust like that make sure that theRoots of the plants are well buried in the soil And then compact aroundthe roots of the plantand now it's time to stake them!So another way to stake pepper plants is by using Long garden stakesAnd then tie the pepper plants as they growThose stakes look good and as the pepper plant grows. . . You can add more stakes if you want toSo mulching is another important part of planting your pepper plantsThe mulch will eventually decompose and give valuable nutrition to your pepper plantsThis time again I'm using the Guava leaf mulchOnce a plant has been plantedI'm gonna put the drip irrigation sticks backAnd now it's time for the first watering! The first watering of a newly plantedplant is very critical and I'm going to show you exactly what you need to do tomake sure you give it adequate nutrition I have some seaweed extract here. . . I'm gonna shake it up and put two tablespoons in this watering canSeaweed has as a lot of minerals that your plans will loveAnd I'm also gonna take some Fish FertilizerThis is a hydrolyzed Fish FertilizerIt's of much better quality than the regular Fish FertilizerAnd I'm gonna add two cap fulls ofthe Fish Fertilizer to this mixAnd all you need to do now is Fill this watering can with water And what this plant starting mix will do. . .  . . . is it will invigorate your plantIt'll make sure it has all the nutrients that it needs to get to a nice startFish and Seaweed are very very useful fertilizersThey contain nutrients that all the plants needYou'll be amazed at what a difference. . . . . . the seaweed and fish make once you start using themEspecially with blooms, I think fish fertilizer works really well for bloomsso make sure that you're giving your plants a lot of fish fertilizer during the blooming seasonAnd that works well for all plants - for peppers, tomatoesalmost any plant that you can imagineNow make sure you water the plants really well, drenching them completelyYou want to drench the leaves and the root areaAnd do this at least two timesPepper plants need to be watered on a regular basis So the drip irrigation system works very well forpepper plants in containersAs far as fertilizing goes, pepper plants need to be fertilized every three weeksAnd use a tomato or pepper fertilizer because they contain calciumAnd also promote blooms which are essential for peppersPut two tablespoons of Epsom Saltin a gallon of water and give the pepper plants a nice baththey will love it!So let's talk about the diseases and pests that affect pepper plantsNow I'm not gonna talk about. . . all the diseases and pests. . . you could just search the web for thatBut I will go over the common onesWorms like Tomato Hornwormand Cutworms are enemies of the pepper plantTo get rid of them just use Neem OilNow blossom end rot is another problem that affects pepper plantsTo see how to get rid of blossom end rot please click the link belowand it'll take you to my video which illustrates how to tackle blossom end rotNow for the fun part! The hard work is done. . . . . . so let's watch how we can harvest different varieties of Peppersin this section of the videoPurple Fiesta papers are nice to growThey look great, they taste greatthat purple color adds some really nice color to your dishesThey give an abundant harvestSo I highly recommend growing these Purple Fiesta papersYou'll be pleasantly surprised at how good they areYellow peppers are healthydelicious and very easy to grow in containersWhen peppers form, they are green in colorbut they eventually change their color to yellowAnd that's when you know they're ready for harvestIf they are partially yellow, don't worryThey were turn yellow completely once you harvest and keep them at room temperatureNow if you have an appetite for very hot pepperTry to grow the Thai pepper variety. Make no mistake - this pepper is Hot!its really Hot! And especially if you're making somedishes like Indian dishes or Thai dishesthese peppers will add really good flavor to your foodOne good thing about the Thai pepper plant is thatOnce you grow it, you can keep growing it year after year. . .  it's morelike a perennialAnd this plant has been growing for two years nowAll I do is every year change the containerLoosen the roots and plant it back And it seems to do very well!Banana peppers are usually not very HotBut they have a very unique tasteAnd that's what makes them so nice! And Banana peppers are of two types - the one that you see hereis a slightly larger variety the one in yellow that oneAnd let's harvest this one and see it's actually a pretty big sized Banana pepperThe other Banana peppers are slightly smallerAnd now let's harvest Poblano peppersIn my opinion Poblano peppers have the best combination of heat and tasteI just find it quite amazingThey taste really good, no matter how you cook themYou can stir fry them You can fill themwith all sorts of things and grill them they taste really good!that's my son helping me with the harvestThank you very much! And as you can see even this Poblano has beengrowing in a container, in this whiskey barrel and the harvest looks pretty goodSo that pretty much summarizes up this episodeI hope you like the tips and I hope you also like the harvest videosAnd learn something from it and I'm sure that after watching this videoyou'll be eager to try out all the different pepper varieties that we haveIf you liked this video please do subscribe to our channelif you're not already a subscriber and be sure to leave your commentsDo share your experiences with growing pepper in your gardenand that's all we have in today's episode I'll see you soonuntil then. . .
